Plettenberg Bay is the jewel of The Garden Route and is tranquil and charming, hospitable and very special. Originally christened “Bahia Formosa” (beautiful bay) by early Portuguese explorers, Plettenberg Bay offers the visitor miles of sweeping, unspoilt golden beaches, a dramatic rocky peninsula, intriguing lagoons and estuaries, towering indigenous forests and unpolluted rivers and sea.

Famed as one of the most beautiful resort towns in South Africa, it enjoys a marvellous temperate climate, both winter and summer, with warm sea temperatures , more sunshine and less wind than any other coastal resort area.

The Robberg Peninsula is a nature reserve and national monument that borders the estate. Robberg offers a choice of three circular routes of increasing difficulty and distance.

The Pansy Shell is a special little creature that has become synonymous with Plettenberg Bay as it is found only along our coastline. It is a delicate member of the sea urchin family with its characteristic petals and little star. Pansy shells are protected and should not be removed from their habiat. If you are given one you are encouraged to retain the joy from your past and can look forward to a life filled with promise!
